Physical Science & Electricity

The Washington Metro Area Welcomes GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer:
Elementary School Students to Discover the Wonders of Physical Science and Electricity

Who:
Students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and attend GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer program, a free and fun experimented-oriented course taught by certified teachers to groups of 15 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (Level I) and children entering fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

What:
GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer program will introduce Washington Metro area students to the wonders of Physical Science and Electricity, answering questions such as:  “How do magnets work?” “What is a magnetic force field?” and “What makes electricity?”  Students will make a compass, an electromagnet and use an electrostatic generator. This course teaches about magnetism, static electricity, electrical currents and circuits.  Discover why it’s a hair-raising experience!

GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer program will be offered by community-based organizations in the Washington Metro Area. The program consists of four, one-hour classes. Check the host location nearest you to find out the schedule for the classes.

Why:
GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer opens young minds to the world of science and fosters a life-long appreciation of learning as well as helping to avoid summer learning loss. Almost 116,000 students from the Greater Philadelphia area have participated in GlaxoSmithKline's Science in the Summer since its inception in 1986.
