Philadelphia – Snow piles and icicles will soon melt away as spring weather arrives and summer nears. With the warm weather, parents begin their search for ways to keep their child learning, while still having fun, over the summer break. This year, look no further than your local library for a free and fun summer learning experience that will open your child’s eyes to the wonders of science during GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program.

GlaxoSmithKline and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) proudly announce the return of GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer program to libraries in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. This free, educational program, now in its 24th year, is dedicated to bringing the world of science to students entering 2nd through 6th grades. Offered at local libraries, GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer introduces scientific concepts to all students through fun, hands-on activities. Taught by certified teachers, this enrichment experience consists of four 45-60-minute classes given over the course of one week. Classes and times vary by county and include Bioscience, Chemistry, Genetics, Oceanography and Physical Science/Electricity. Registration for the program is limited and begins in April, with classes occurring in June, July and August. Please visit www.scienceinthesummer.com or your local library for course descriptions and specific registration and class dates. Since its inception, the program has introduced over 100,000 Delaware Valley children to science.

GlaxoSmithKline’s Science in the Summer is sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline and administered by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
