Oceanography

School may be out, but science is in! GSK Science in the Summer™ brings
physical science/electricity to elementary students at Chester County libraries

Registration Begins May 20 — Space is Limited

Who:
Chester County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and attend GSK Science in the Summer™. This free and fun experiment-oriented program is taught by certified teachers to groups of 16 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (Level I) and children entering fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GSK Science in the Summer™ is sponsored by GSK in partnership with The Franklin Institute and local libraries.

What:
The GSK Science in the Summer™ program will introduce Chester County students to Oceanography! They will use microscopes, microviewers and magnifying glasses to observe microscopic sea creatures, such as animal plankton and zooplankton. In addition, they will have a chance to touch, draw, and learn about many different kinds of sea life, including sponges, coral, jellyfish, and mollusks. Students also will see prehistoric shark teeth and a shark's jaw with hundreds of teeth to get a comprehensive look at the ocean and its creatures.

In Chester County, GSK Science in the Summer™ consists of two morning sessions and two afternoon sessions that occur across four days. Class times are Level I: 9:45-10:45 am or 12:45-1:45 pm, and Level II: 11:00 am-noon or 2:00-3:00 pm, unless otherwise noted.

Why:
GSK Science in the Summer™ opens young minds to the world of science and fosters a life-long appreciation of learning. Approximately 120,000 students from the Greater Philadelphia Area have participated in GSK Science in the Summer™ since its inception.
